Between 2015 and 2020 I ran a premium human hair extensions business. I had customers. I had orders coming in through Instagram DMs and WhatsApp. I was busy every single day. But if you had asked me how much profit I was making — I genuinely could not have told you. I did not know how to pay myself properly. I was losing track of orders in my messages. I was working hard, making sales, and somehow still not clear on whether the business was actually working.

At that time I had customer service experience and a genuine love for organisation and numbers. But nobody had shown me how to apply any of that to the financial side of running a small business. I was doing what most small business owners do — guessing, hoping and pushing through.

That experience stayed with me.

It pushed me to go further. I went on to earn two MBAs — one in Finance from the National Open University of Nigeria and one in Healthcare Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, where I placed in the top 10% of my cohort in Financial Management Analysis. I became a certified Project Manager, scoring above target in all domains. I built a career working behind the scenes in credit card management at one of Nigeria's biggest banks, then across the education and energy sectors — always the person making complex systems work smoothly, always the one organising what others could not see.

But I never forgot what it felt like to be that business owner who was selling every day and still confused about the money.

When I started having honest conversations with friends who ran their own businesses — food vendors, salon owners, boutique owners — I heard the same story over and over again. Busy every day. Making sales. But the money never made sense. They were exhausted and uncertain, working without knowing if the work was actually paying off.

I also know what it means to need every naira and every dollar to count. When I relocated to Canada recently, I used trackers to plan every single expense of the move — our savings, our costs, our timeline. Nothing was left to chance because we simply could not afford surprises. That discipline, that clarity, is what made an expensive and stressful process manageable. And I thought: every small business owner deserves to feel this way about their business finances.

So I built Clarity Desk.

Not as a template business. Not as a generic service. But as a done-for-you financial clarity service — one that takes everything I have learned about finance, systems, organisation and numbers and puts it to work for the small business owner who is too busy, too overwhelmed or too unsure to figure it all out alone.
